Welcome to my new website. I am currently working on this, so check back soon. More items will be added soon!
Needing a creative outlet, I (timidly) signed up for a clay class in 2006. Soon, I knew that I had found something that I loved. Working with clay revealed a desire to make things – unique things – by hand.
I love the inherent qualities of clay, and the acts of forming and firing it to a near-permanent state. Making something out of almost nothing holds mystery and excitement for me.
All of my work is hand-built – meaning no 2 pieces are ever the same, no matter how hard you try. In our days of the need for instant gratification, I take great pleasure in the one-of-a-kindness of my pieces. Hand-built means dirty fingernails, dust, cuts, scrapes, and failure; but the end result is worth the effort.
I love organic shapes and colors. Hopefully this is reflected in the work that you see. I am constantly trying new textures, shapes and colors. The successes are reused in a variety of ways, spawning more possibilities; the failures are abandoned to the scrap heap of good intentions (or the trash can). I have always loved the forms, designs and colors of nature. The beautiful starkness of a leafless tree in winter, the bright green of spring buds, the intensity of summer colors, and the golden hues of autumn.
I live and work in Birmingham, Alabama.
